THE OPPORTUNITY
The Emergency Department at GBGH is seeking talented and experienced Emergency Physicians to join our team Full-time. Part-time and Locum opportunities are also available.
GBGH ER is a busy rural site with visits ranging between 45,000-50,000 annually. We boast a recently renovated, large Emergency Department with a spacious double trauma bay, a bright well-lit workspace, two secure safe rooms, two portable ultrasound machines (including a brand new Mindray TE7 MAX), and 24 hour security support. Despite all this, our physicians will tell you that the real reason they choose to live and work here is the incredible team. From our nursing staff, to our ward clerks, physiotherapists, discharge planners, GEM nurse, housekeeping staff - the sense of teamwork and friendship at GBGH is truly unparalleled.
For those interested in academics, we regularly support medical students, PA students, and residents from the University of Toronto, NOSM, and other universities around the province. We have a monthly journal club, and are working to establish a monthly simulation lab with our brand new state of the art SimMan!
THE OFFER
- Remuneration includes a competitive AFA with a bonus system to reward hard work, as well as year end bonuses for physicians who commit to our team. Full-time ED physicians can expect to earn $300-400k a year
- Relocation assistance includes access to subsidized housing during the transition period, as well as up to $8000 to help with your moving costs
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position
- Fellowship in Emergency Medicine through the CFPC (CCFP-EM) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) specializing in Emergency Medicine. Candidates with experience in high volume and high acuity EDs will also be considered
- ACLS, ATLS and PALS certification. NRP is encouraged as our emergency doctors may be required to respond to Code Pink/neonatal resuscitations

GBGH is a 113-bed hospital located in Midland, Ontario, serving a broad and growing population across North Simcoe. Our catchment includes Midland, Penetanguishene, the Township of Tiny, the Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township, and Springwater Township.
With an operating budget of approximately $80 million, GBGH employs more than 800 staff and is supported by over 100 active professional staff, 70 regional affiliates and consulting physicians, plus over 100 volunteers from our community. The hospital provides a full range of services, including acute care, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, diagnostic imaging inclusive of MRI, and a Level 3 Intensive Care Unit.
Significant investments are shaping the future of care at GBGH. This includes a 2,500 square foot expansion of the diagnostic imaging department to accommodate MRI services, a mammography program set to launch in fall 2025, and plans for a 50,000 square foot expansion to add 24 inpatient mental health beds adjacent to our Emergency Department. GBGH is an established rural academic site affiliated with the University of Toronto and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). As home to the University of Toronto Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and a host site for NOSM’s Comprehensive Community Clerkship, we offer physicians the chance to engage in hands-on teaching and mentorship in a supportive, community-based environment.
