THE OPPORTUNITY
GBGH is looking to add a full-time Urologist to our expanding team to better serve the community's increasing needs. GBGH is an expanding 113-bed facility, including a closed unit Level 3 ICU. Our ORs are equipped for advanced laparoscopic surgeries, and we also have a new state-of-the-art laser. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to offer a wide range of urologic services. Our medical staff includes Hospitalists, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics / Gynecology, and Radiology. We also have a large group of itinerant surgeons, including ENT, Plastics, Orthopedics, and Urology.
Our dedicated team serves a diverse catchment area, including Midland, Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township, and Springwater Township. With a population base of 55,000, surging to over 150,000 during the peak season, GBGH stands as a healthcare cornerstone for our vibrant community.

WHAT DO YOU GET?
- Remuneration is Fee for Service and HOCC for call. The successful candidate will be given resources equivalent to a 1.0 FTE position, including regular OR, ambulatory care, and cystoscopy time
- On call requirement of 1:5
- High demand from the community with current wait times up to a year
- A one-time relocation stipend is also offered as part of our onboarding process
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- FRCSC certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Urology
- Proficiency in laparoscopic surgery and ability to manage urologic malignancies is preferred
- Licensure or eligibility to practice in the province of Ontario (CPSO)
- Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association in good standing
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care

GBGH is a 113-bed hospital located in Midland, Ontario, serving a broad and growing population across North Simcoe. Our catchment includes Midland, Penetanguishene, the Township of Tiny, the Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township, and Springwater Township.
With an operating budget of approximately $80 million, GBGH employs more than 800 staff and is supported by over 100 active professional staff, 70 regional affiliates and consulting physicians, plus over 100 volunteers from our community. The hospital provides a full range of services, including acute care, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, diagnostic imaging inclusive of MRI, and a Level 3 Intensive Care Unit.
Significant investments are shaping the future of care at GBGH. This includes a 2,500 square foot expansion of the diagnostic imaging department to accommodate MRI services, a mammography program set to launch in fall 2025, and plans for a 50,000 square foot expansion to add 24 inpatient mental health beds adjacent to our Emergency Department. GBGH is an established rural academic site affiliated with the University of Toronto and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). As home to the University of Toronto Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and a host site for NOSM’s Comprehensive Community Clerkship, we offer physicians the chance to engage in hands-on teaching and mentorship in a supportive, community-based environment.
